Mother of the Bride Fascinators Hats

Fascinators for the Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom

Bridal mums traditionally wear hats to weddings which compliment their outfit. Choosing an outfit and Mother of the Bride Fascinator hat for a wedding is one of the most daunting but enjoyable days of their life

The Mother of the Bride in the past has worn a large wedding hat with feathers or a flower sown on. But, figures released this week show that sales of mother of the Bride fascinators to accompany wedding outfits have risen sharply this wedding season.

For the first time, more mother of the bride fascinator hats than the traditional choice mother of the bride hats, maybe because a fascinator was worn by Kate Middleton at her Royal Wedding in 2011 to Prince William.

Fascinators are traditionally favoured by younger wedding guests and can be much more photo-friendly than a large hat.

As for the rest of the bridal party, the bridesmaids can look perfect with understated bridesmaid fascinators within their wedding hair, and everyone else can continue the weddings theme with a flower corsage attached to their suit or jacket or feather fascinators or flower fascinators if they choose.

How do I wear a Fascinator?

When fitting a fascinator hat, be it for a wedding or a special occasion there are many simple tricks of the trade that can be used to ensure your fascinator stays where you want it and will ensure you and your hair looks fabulous all day.

If you choose a Comb Fascinator all you need to remember is:

• Back comb the area where you intend to place your fascinator hat. This provides a thicker and stronger area on which the fascinators or fascinator hat can grip.
• Push the comb fascinator slightly in the opposite direction before you slide the fascinator hat into place, this will ensure that more hairs are woven between the teeth of the comb fascinator, again ensuring a firmer grip.
• Spray the area around the fascinator comb, avoiding the actual fascinator hat, liberally with hairspray. This will ensure that the fascinator comb and the hairs stick together and will prevent it from slipping.
• And lastly if you’re still worried about wearing your fascinator, try strategically placing a few curbi-grips in the area also, just for extra security.

What if I choose a Fascinator or Fascinator Hat on a headband

If you select a fascinator mounted on a headband you really do not have any cause for concern. The fascinators headband are strong yet discreet and will stay in place without help. So unless, after the Champagne starts flowing, you feel the urge to perform cartwheels, (and then I’m afraid gravity will probably take hold) you’ll be absolutely fine and your fascinator wont move.

What is a Fascinator Hat? – What are Fascinators?

A fascinator or fascinator hat is a head piece that is worn on a ladies head but differs from a normal hat, as it is mounted on base, usually a headband or comb and fastened to their hair and are most commonly worn at weddings and horse racing events.

The fascinator’s origins can be traced back to the grandes dames of the 18th century, when hair pieces in the form of powdered wigs were so large that hats became impossible to wear and fell out of ladies’ fashion.  Instead, the powdered wigs were festooned with all manner of ornaments, trinkets, jewels, ribbon and feathers – this included large items such as large replica carriages, replica sailing ships and even bird cages with live birds inside!  And so the fascinator, not quite as we know it today, was born.  Fascinator hats, largely extinct by the 1970s, the fascinator has had a real revival in the noughties, and is now used as an alternative to hats both at weddings, other formal occasions (such as Ladies Day at Ascot) and even at evening parties, where they are sometimes referred to as a cocktail hats.

How are Fascinators worn?

How to wear a fascinator…? Well, a fascinator can be worn in many different ways, and depending on its style, it can be worn to the front or the side of the head. A fascinator can also be worn as you would a tiara or towards the back of the head if your hair is to be dressed up in a chignon or curls.

Hair fascinators are usually attached to hair combs, beak clips, alligator clips and headbands. Many fascinators are created with ribbon, feathers, flowers, diamanties, crystals and other materials such as voile, satin and chiffon. Fascinators and fascinator hats are available in many colours, styles and types so we hope you will find something that you are looking for in our fascinator range.
